...goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall” - Proverbs 16:18. It doesn’t matter what form it comes in: team pride, school pride, national pride, racial pride, family pride, gay pride, gender pride, religious pride, intellectual pride, etc. ALL OF IT leads to destruction. 1 John 2:16 says that the “pride of life - is not of the Father [God] but is of the world.” The Bible also declares that pride brings shame, while humility brings wisdom (Prov 11:2). What would you rather have - shame or wisdom? Proverbs 6:7 says that God even HATES “a proud look.” Oftentimes, people think that pride can be “loving.” How is that possible when the Bible says it’s not of God and that God hates a proud look? Also, 1 Corinthians 13:4 says that LOVE is NOT “puffed up” (proud). James 4:6 says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” This is a big problem, since grace is the only way a sinner can be saved (Eph 2:8-9)! This means that if you have pride in your heart, that you don’t have the grace of God and are therefore not saved from your sins or from Hell! And let’s face it, pride isn’t your only sin. Have you had sex outside of marriage, gotten drunk, done drugs, lied, stolen, been covetous or taken God’s name in vain? All of those are sins that lead to an eternal Hell (1 Cor 6:9-10, Rev 21:8)! There is HOPE for you, though! Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a perfect life, suffered and died on the cross, and then rose from the grave! Through what He did, He offers salvation freely to all who will Forsake their sins, Believe the Gospel, and Follow Him in Obedience. Don’t delay! Seek God today! Psalm 10:4 says “The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.” Don’t let your pride be your downfall.
